EVENT | JOURNEY TO AVALON SACRED PLANTS & FLOWER ESSENCE RETREAT IN ENGLAND

In this episode, you’ll hear from Lupo Passero, herbalist, educator, and flower essence practitioner with Twin Star Herbal, who is talking with Brooke from The Wild Temple about their upcoming Journey to Avalon Retreat in England.

Please note the updated dates for this event: July 24 - July 30 2019

There is a time in our lives when the best form of self care comes from the magic and mystery of immersing in a land far away. To not just unplug, but to be guided to the sacred, and held in a space that opens the secret places of the mysteries of our Earth and of ourselves. Perhaps it is YOUR time. Are you ready to visit the land of ancient Avalon? To walk the paths of the mystics, connect with the magic of the elements and retreat into the beautiful countryside that will replenish your innate spark? Is it time for a Soul Journey? If so, we are here for you. Brooke and Lupo, two teachers of herbal schools on the East & West coasts are gathering an intimate group for an incredible journey.

Twin Star Tribe and The Wild Temple are excited to share with you the birthplace of Dr. Edward Bach and to explore these ancient lands of magic and gentle mysticism, quite a nurturing seat of Soul to be found on the planet.

This trip is perfect for all levels of herbal experience; whether you are a beginner, the “budding” herbalist or if you’re an experienced herbalist or Flower Essence Practitioner and would like a deeper understanding of sacred plant medicine. Each day will include time with our herbal allies, interaction with the local plants and time for exploring the rich history of this sacred land. At the end of this tour, each participant will be awarded a Level One certification as a Bach Flower Essence practitioner from Dr. Edward Bach's original center for Flower Essences in Mt. Vernon UK as well as a Certificate of Completion from Twin Star and The Wild Temple to commemorate what we have discovered and learned on this trip.

CLASS | Lara Pacheco at the Breitenbush Herbal Conference

In today’s episode we’ll hear from herbalist Lara Pacheco as she gives us a rundown on the classes she’ll be teaching at the upcoming Breitenbush Herbal Conference.

Vital Force, Chi, Yaya Guaturey, Hu, Ool; the many names of animating energy.

Description - There are many traditions that recognize the force that gives rise to breath and movement.  Lara Pacheco will share the Taino perspective along with similar yet different patterns in other healing systems.  She will also share plant allies that she specifically calls in when specifically working with this powerful, ubiquitous force of energy.

Plant Allies Here and There; Achiano + Guanajo and the Element of Fire

The beckoning cry of our ancestors has called us into this place of healing. In Boríken (Puerto Rico) our colonizer told us that the Taíno ways had been destroyed. And yet, here they are guiding the work to illuminate consciousness. This class will focus on the the unearthing of the many shackles of colonialism, and explore the journey of reconnecting with  indigenous ways of knowing. We will spend our class time on sitting with the season of Summer and drawing from the Caribbean ancestors through plants, elements, food and animal guides. We will also discuss plants cultivated and native of the PNW, and how I've incorporated these into my practice to honor ancestors of this land and to connect to place.

Lara Pacheco is a Latinx mamita, clinical herbalist and community organizer who runs Seed and Thistle Apothecary. Seed and Thistle is a herbal company that provides educational programs for youth and adults, health consultations and a monthly herbal CSH through home and heart grown medicine.  Lara also runs a full year apprenticeship program and is starting a pop up clinic, called the Seasonal Wellness Clinic, to address access to plant medicine and bodywork to her community in Cully of Portland, OR.  When not working with the plants, Lara loves playing music, and spending time outdoors with her friends and family.

Cooling Herbal Energetics for Hot Weather with Maria Noel Groves and Missy Rohs | 121

Join Maria Noel Groves and Missy Rohs in today’s episode as they discuss herbal applications for hot weather! Enjoy!

Maria Noël Groves, RH (AHG), clinical herbalist, runs Wintergreen Botanicals, nestled in the pine forests of New Hampshire. Her business is devoted to education and empowerment via classes, health consultations, and writing with the foundational belief that good health grows in nature.

Missy Rohs is a co-founder and instructor at the Arctos School of Herbal and Botanical Studies in Portland, Oregon.  She approaches herbalism with an eye to personal empowerment, community-building, and practical engagement with healing herbs.  Her relationship to plants is guided by a strong conservation ethic and a deep love of Cascadia’s ecosystems.  She grows and wildcrafts her own medicine with a focus on sustainable herbal remedies: those that grow easily in populated habitats, and those that can be harvested in the wild with minimal impact.

Missy’s path to herbalism began with labor solidarity, community organizing, and police accountability advocacy.  She sees her herbal practice and teaching as another facet of working for social and environmental justice.

Missy will be teaching at the upcoming Breitenbush Herbal Conference in Breitenbush, OR from September 5 - 8, 2019.

Peer Support: A Radical Paradigm with Age-Old Roots - A conversation with Dawn Cohoe and Selena Rowan | 120

Listen in with Selena Rowan as she interviews herbalist and peer support specialist Dawn Cohoe of Maple Twig Medicinals. They cover wide ranging ground exploring the concept of Peer Support, a non-hierarchical practice of giving and receiving help, most commonly applied to mental health and addictions recovery but with wide ranging applications, including herbal medicine. Peer support is based on a philosophy of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement on what is helpful, with its goal to promote holistic healing and growth in the context of community.

Dawn and Selena touch in on the radical origins of the modern peer support movement in relationship to the mental health system and mental health recovery, personal stories relating to peer support, and breaking down the false dichotomy between "those who know" and "those who don't". Dawn reminds us that when working in any helping profession, whether that be when supporting those in mental health recovery or in any other situation, we as practitioners "need more vulnerability and less fragility."

Herbalist Interview: Hope Najjar with Selena Rowan | 116

Meet Hope Najjar - a born and raised Californian with Chicana and Lebanese roots with  incredible energy and clear vision. Hope is opening Night Hawk Art and Healing Collective in our tiny town of Laytonville, part of the Eel River watershed in rural inland Mendocino County of far northern California. The Night Hawk Collective has goals as lofty as its name sake, and hopes to serve as a community hub, empowering the community through sharing traditional methods of healing and promoting self-care.

This community is on a precipice after over 5 years of historic drought and water crises, concurrent with historic fires (including the Mendocino Complex, the largest fire in California history), ecological fracturing, threatened extinction of our local salmon and collapse of local fisheries, and severe and sudden economic decline due to the third economic boom and bust cycle in the region's history of extractive industries (in the past few decades we've experienced the collapse of the logging, fisheries, and cannabis production industries). Amidst all this, Hope is part of a generation of young folk here working hard to cultivate a community resilient enough to survive the current and future changes we face.

So listen with herbalist Selena Rowan of Nine Sisters Botanicals, and join the movement for sustainable, enthusiastic, loving, creative culture and community as we traverse through the unknown and unpredictable experience that is our current time.
